Lotta Nieminen

I first came across Lotta Nieminen while browsing the Communication Arts website and loved what they had there so I decided to check out her website. Lotta Nieminen is a graphic designer and illustrator living and working in Helsinki, Finland. She studied graphic design and illustration at the University of Art and Design Helsinki (2005-2009) and the Rhode Island School of Design (2007).  Her philosophy: “People who don’t have a sense of humor really have serious problems.” —Paul Rand

You can check her out on her website here or in Communication Arts here.

Hyperactivitypography from A to Z

Hyperactivitypography from A to Z is an activity book for typographers.  It was created by Norwegian design studio, Studio 3, run by third-year design students at Westerdals School of Communication for client Arctic Paper.  and I WANT ONE!!!  but unlucky for me, they are out of stock and they haven’t said when the reprint is going to be, so I guess I will just have to wait and see. The book is packed with activities that will test you on your type skills.  For us design nerds, it’s a ton of fun.  You can check out THE ENTIRE BOOK here. And the website of the design studio (Studio 3) here.

Anna Smurygina

I found this designer named Anna Smurygina on and I found her designs very interesting.  Not sure if I like all of them, some of them are a little too modern looking for me.  But I like the book shelves that look like trees, internet cafe, and the black tulip chair looks pretty cool when put in the right setting.  I couldn’t find much on the designer herself because she is from Moscow, Russia and her website is in Russian.  But I do know that she is fairly young and specializes in interior design, industrial design, and 3-D modeling. If you want to check her out on click here. or her website click here (although, it is in russian i think).

Sixx Design

I came across a show called 9 by design on itunes and decided to watch the free preview episode.  The show features Sixx Design.  Husband and wife design team Bob and Cortney Novogratz (sixx design) have rebuilt properties in Manhattan from the ground up. And not just houses here and there. They have rebuilt entire blocks in the city and they have six kids and one on the way.  I am completely amazed by their talent and am wondering how I have never heard of them before.  They are very talented and kind of a big deal.  If you are interested in seeing more of their work, visit their website here, or check out the show 9 by design on bravo here, although, if you want to watch full episodes i think you have to go to itunes. Or, you could even buy their book “Downtown Chic” off here.

Amy Atlas

This isn’t the kind of design that I usually feature on my blog but she is amazing and I just couldn’t keep her out.  In case you haven’t heard of her, Amy Atlas is the master when it comes to dessert tables.  I am in complete amazement with everything she does and I have to admit, I am a little obsessed. haha. I check her blog at least once a day (and I love how she updates it so often).  Maybe one day, if the time ever comes, I will have her host my wedding. But that probably won’t happen considering she does parties for people like Oprah and Brooke Shields.  But I can always dream. To see more from her, check out her website and her blog.

Alice Stevenson

Her work is so cute. I saw it and and instantly fell in love.  It’s cute and simple but also sophisticated at the same time.  If you want to see more of her work, you should check out her website or her blog.  She has just redone her website, which I just looked at, and it has new stuff that is quite lovely, so I suggest checking it out if you like what you see here.
